The Airfreight Import Controller is responsible for coordinating and managing air freight shipments from origin to final destination .
The role ensures all shipments are executed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with international regulations, while delivering high levels of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shipment Coordination
Plan and execute air freight (Import) shipments including cross-trades
Book cargo with airlines and carriers
Arrange collection and delivery with transport providers
Monitor shipment progress and proactively manage delays
2. Documentation & Compliance
Ensure accuracy of shipping documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, permits)
Ensure compliance with customs regulations, IATA, and dangerous goods regulations
Liaise with customs brokers for clearance
3. Customer Service
Act as the main point of contact for customers
Provide shipment updates, tracking, and issue resolution
Handle queries, complaints, and service escalations
Maintain strong and transparent client relationships
4. Operations & Systems
Capture and manage shipment data in freight systems (e.g.CargoWise, Tango, etc.)
Maintain accurate shipment files and records
Ensure all milestones are updated in real time
5. Cost Control & Billing
Obtain and negotiate rates with airlines and service providers
Verify supplier invoices and ensure correct billing
Ensure profitability of shipments in line with company targets
6. Stakeholder Management
Coordinate with airlines, warehouse staff, transporters, and overseas offices
Work closely with internal teams (sales, finance, customer service)
Build relationships with service providers
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 3–5 years experience in freight operations
Knowledge of Import procedures
Experience with freight management systems (e.g., CargoWise & Tango preferred)
Knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations (advantageous)
Incoterms
Understanding of airline capacity and routing
Ability to work after-hours when required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
