Summary
The Supervisor, Operations is responsible for overseeing daily transportation, freight brokerage, dispatch, and customer service activities to ensure efficient operations, strong service performance, and achievement of business objectives. This role provides direct leadership to operations employees, coordinates freight execution and carrier capacity, supports customer account management, and partners with branch and functional leadership to drive operational performance, service quality, and growth.
The Supervisor serves as a key point of escalation for operational, customer, carrier, and system-related issues and works closely with customers, carriers, Sales, and internal teams to resolve issues and identify opportunities for improvement. This position is also responsible for developing team members, maintaining effective operational processes, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable transportation regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise daily transportation, dispatch, freight brokerage, and customer service activities to ensure efficient execution of customer requirements and achievement of operational objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop assigned operations employees; establish priorities, delegate workloads, monitor performance, conduct performance reviews, and address performance or conduct concerns as appropriate.
- Monitor shipment activity, load status, service performance, and operational priorities, proactively addressing delays, service failures, and other operational issues.
- Coordinate freight execution and carrier capacity, including dispatching loads, supporting spot pricing and rate negotiations, booking shipments, and resolving carrier service or settlement issues.
- Serve as a primary point of escalation for customer, carrier, operational, and system-related issues and ensure timely and effective resolution.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships by understanding account requirements, responding to service needs, and ensuring customer expectations are effectively communicated and executed.
- Oversee new customer onboarding and account set-up activities and develop and maintain SOPs, customer-specific requirements, work instructions, and operational processes.
- Partner with Sales, management, and other functional teams to support new business opportunities, customer growth, carrier development, and overall account performance.
- Establish, monitor, and report operational KPIs, productivity measures, service metrics, and other performance indicators; identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, service, and cost performance.
- Assess staffing and training needs and participate in employee selection, onboarding, development, scheduling, and workforce planning activities.
- Ensure employees and operational activities comply with company policies, customer and contractual requirements, and applicable DOT, FMCSA, federal, and state transportation regulations.
- Serve as an operational resource and provide day-to-day leadership in the absence of the Branch Manager/Manager as needed.
- Lead by example by demonstrating accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and alignment with DSV values and strategy.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation, dispatch, logistics, freight brokerage, or a related operational environment.
- Freight brokerage and/or truckload transportation experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience leading, supervising, or providing day-to-day direction to employees required.
- Working knowledge of transportation operations, dispatch, carrier management, customer service, and freight execution.
- Knowledge of applicable DOT, FMCSA, federal, and state transportation regulations preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and effectively utilize transportation and operational systems.

Physical Demands
This role is primarily performed in an office environment and requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk and using a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment. The employee must be able to use their hands frequently for typing, writing, and operating office equipment, along with close visual acuity for reading reports, screens, and documentation. Clear verbal and written communication is essential, including extended periods of time on the phone with customers, carriers, and team members. The role may occasionally require bending, reaching, or lifting office materials or supplies up to 15–20 lbs.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced environment characterized by frequent interruptions, competing priorities, and time-sensitive deadlines, requiring the ability to manage stress and maintain focus in a dynamic, high-volume setting. Extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, may be required based on operational needs, shipment volume, or customer and carrier issues that arise outside standard business hours. The role may also involve occasional exposure to warehouse, dock, or terminal environments, which can include variable temperatures, noise, and proximity to moving equipment; adherence to all applicable safety protocols and PPE requirements is required in these settings. Occasional travel may be necessary for training, customer visits, or other business needs.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 Annual. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
