The Manager of Warehouse CIP is responsible for managing, coaching, tracking, reporting, designing, and implementing solutions processes related to driving continuous performance improvement across all Air Sea warehouse facilities. This includes implementation of current business projects required to expand business or correct current issues with poorly performing operations. 

This manager is responsible for maintaining department budgets, financial and engineering metrics that will meet or exceed performance goals.  In addition, this position is also responsible to direct, develop and mentor various stakeholders to build engineering competency and grow talent.  This person will have responsibility to support operations in order to meet budgeted operating profits and cost reduction objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Research/Analysis:

 

  • Keep informed of best-in-class tools and techniques needed for solution design.
  • Track all projects over assigned region(s) and provide communication and guidance to senior engineering management.
  • Analyze workflow including inbound, put away, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, and VAS processes to ensure accuracy and ability to execute.
  • Analyzes contractual commitments, customer specifications, design changes and other data to develop improved solutions for operation.
  • Performs special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functions.
  • Performs cost/benefit analysis and develops ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system, or technology change.
  • Participation in “Advance Quality Planning” sessions with new clients validating requirements and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Labor Management System (LMS) functionality and ensures both are configured to optimize performance.
  • Strong knowledge of work measurement techniques, engineered labor standards and performance incentive plans.
  • Applies company and engineering methodologies and tools such as warehouse slotting, labor standards and work measurement application, layouts and optimization of flow, data profiling and analysis, and resource modeling.

 

 

 

Documentation/Reporting: 

  • Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions within scope of responsibility.
  • Review data and summarize expectations to address gaps in operation.
  • Identify areas for improvement based on analysis of data and observations.

 

Communication: 

  • Communicate opportunities for improvement.
  • Help determine key metrics and provide recommendations to guide management. 
  • Assist with developing/presenting training materials and classes for distribution processes.

 

Relationships

  • Ensure alignment among all operations’ policies, procedures, and ongoing improvement projects.

 

LEAN Operations:

 

  • Facilitate use of LEAN methodology in collaboration with our global team and recommend solutions
    Deploy statistical tools such as Pareto Charts, Histograms and Cause & Effect Diagrams
  • Leverage Value Stream Map or Flow Diagram of process to identify critical to quality points.
  • Use of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of the process being evaluated to quantify impact.
  • Maintain SME in proven industry methods and tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC, value-stream mapping, and 5S.
  • Work with leadership to drive continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshops.
  • Apply traditional manufacturing based concepts to a variety of material handling environments
  • Ensure that all assigned projects include a sustainability component and drive adherence within the organization.
  • Illustrate continual improvement successes in a case study before & after format that quantifies value.

 

Project Management:

  • Assist with developing and rolling-out growth strategies and projects.
  • Determine feasibility of projects factoring costs, available space, schedule limitations, company goals, technical requirements, and economic factors.
  • Develop and implement project activities plans and timelines, coordinate subcontractors, facility management and field service personnel, and resolve problems in area of logistics to ensure meeting of contractual commitments.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education & Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering (IE), IE Technology, or relatable accredited engineering or business degree.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working in warehousing and distribution center environment.
  • Prior leadership positions directing Logistics Engineers in 3PL/supply chain environment.
