Summary

The Freight Forwarder, Defense & Aerospace, plays a critical role in managing and coordinating the import and export of high-value, regulated goods specific to the defense and aerospace sectors. This position ensures seamless movement through complex logistics channels, focusing on stringent regulatory compliance and precision documentation. Success in this role relies on exceptional organizational and analytical skills, a solid understanding of defense and aerospace logistics, and the ability to maintain strong customer relationships within a high-stakes environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate import and exportation of defense and aerospace goods by air or ocean, ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations and working closely with transport providers.
  • Prepare and manage intricate documentation for customs clearance and regulatory compliance, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and additional defense-related documentation.
  • Track and monitor sensitive shipments, providing accurate and timely updates to defense and aerospace clients.
  • Manage relationships with clients in the defense and aerospace sectors, ensuring satisfaction by addressing any complex regulatory issues that may arise.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as logistics, finance, compliance, and operations to meet the specific needs of defense and aerospace shipments.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and other relevant export control and compliance protocols.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Educational background / Work experience / Qualifications

  • Prior experience in freight forwarding or logistics, particularly within the defense, aerospace, or regulated sectors, is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with export control laws and specific requirements for defense and aerospace shipments is beneficial.
  • Deep knowledge of defense and aerospace logistics requirements, including industry-specific freight logistics, and compliance with both U.S. and international trade and customs regulations.
  • Familiarity with ITAR, EAR, and other defense export regulations is essential.

 

Language Skills

  • Business fluent in English
  • Preferably good command of local language
  • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus

 

Computer Literacy

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and others)
  • Good knowledge of Cargowise.

 

Physical and/or Mental Requirements / Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand.  The employee is often required to walk and use hand and eye coordination.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.   

 

Work Hours and Environment

Normal working hours for this position are Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, however, working beyond these hours will often be required by business needs. 

 

For this position, the expected base pay is: $20.75 - $28.00 / Hourly.  Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
