Summary

The Manager, Driver Operations is responsible for leading DSV Road Transport's driver operations by providing strategic and day-to-day leadership for the professional driver workforce. This role oversees driver performance, safety, engagement, retention, workforce planning, and regulatory compliance while partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient transportation operations and exceptional customer service. The Manager, Driver Operations drives operational excellence through strong leadership, continuous improvement, and a commitment to safety, compliance, and employee development.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of professional drivers, supervisors, and dispatchers to achieve company safety, service, and performance objectives.
  • Foster a positive, driver-focused culture that promotes employee engagement, accountability, retention, and professional development.
  • Conduct driver meetings, ride-alongs, coaching sessions, performance evaluations, and ongoing feedback discussions.
  • Recognize and reward strong performance while addressing performance concerns in a timely, fair, and consistent manner.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for driver concerns, escalations, and employee relations matters in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Ensure daily transportation operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements, company policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Partner with Dispatch, Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Payroll, Human Resources, Planning, and Customer Service teams to support seamless transportation execution.
  • Monitor driver utilization, route efficiency, service levels, productivity, and operational performance to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze operational metrics and develop action plans to improve productivity, service quality, compliance, and cost efficiency.
  • Manage driver staffing levels and workforce planning to support current and future business demands.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and all applicable transportation regulations.
  • Support driver recruiting, onboarding, orientation, training, and retention initiatives.
  • Assist with the implementation of new technologies, transportation systems, operational processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare reports and presentations related to operational performance, driver engagement, staffing, compliance, and key business metrics.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives that support organizational growth, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal departments, leadership, customers, and business partners.
  • Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of transportation, logistics, fleet, or driver management experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience managing drivers or frontline transportation personnel required.
  • Experience supporting truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL), dedicated transportation, or similar logistics operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and other transportation compliance regulations.
  • Experience leading employee engagement, coaching, performance management, and retention initiatives preferred.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods while working on a computer, talking on the phone, and reviewing reports and data; is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout office and warehouse or terminal areas; and occasionally required to climb into or out of vehicles or equipment during ride-alongs or inspections. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis, must have close visual acuity to review documents, data, and computer screens, and must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, including extensive use of phone, email, and computer systems throughout the workday. Work Environment

This position operates in a combination office and warehouse/terminal environment, requiring regular movement between a climate-controlled office setting, where the employee will use a computer, phone, and other standard office equipment for extended periods, and a warehouse, dock, or terminal setting that may involve exposure to noise, dust, varying temperatures, and moving equipment or vehicles; the noise level ranges from moderate in the office to elevated in warehouse or terminal areas, the pace is fast and deadline-driven with fluctuating priorities, occasional travel to other facilities or customer sites may be required, and availability outside standard business hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call support, may be necessary to meet operational needs.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $77,500.00  – $97,000.00 annuel. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
