SUMMARY

 

Implementation
Responsible for the successful implementation of new business start-ups for new and existing clients in the Distribution - Americas Region. Directs the activities of implementation teams consisting of  operations subject matter experts, project managers, and support team members for each project.  Ensures the development of achievable timelines and resource plans to achieve external and internal expectations while providing leadership and guidance for project success by removing barriers and escalating and resolving complex issues. 

 

Innovation
Responsible for developing innovative process and technical solutions for new and existing clients that increase revenue and operating profit growth.  Leads the implementation of LEAN principles and Quality across the Americas Distribution locations and provides quantified value and statistical analysis that reflect continuous improvement to the key leadership in Contract Logistics and Distribution and to clients. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Implementation

  • Provides direction to a team of project managers, implementation managers and implementation support teams. 
  • Oversees the development of work processes, tools and KPI’s to support Company growth and implementation of complex projects. 
  • Oversees the execution of management and  implementation of large and/or complex projects 
  • Obtains timely and accurate project status reports.  Anticipates and pro-actively implements contingency plans to address issues. 
  • Resolves complex issues as they may arise and identifies appropriate resources and process steps to quick resolve outstanding issues. 
  • Increases operational effectiveness in support of start-up activity by identifying and procuring appropriate internal and external team resources.
  • Provides accurate and timely project updates to clients and senior level Company leadership.  
  • Serves as the senior leadership sponsor with clients on start-up implementations.
  • Provides on-site leadership oversight for implementations and oversees activities of the start-up team. 
  • Works with client senior leadership to manage business relationships and resolve issues.
  • Hosts senior level steering committee meetings to review progress and opportunities.
  • Serves as the first point of escalation for the client on any project concerns, provides leadership and issue resolution.
  • Provides leadership to ensure projects are on-time and within budget. 
  • Partners with Business Development and Operations teams to generate detailed project plans and corresponding budgets for RFP’s in support of new business opportunities.
  • Accountable for the management of all project budgets. Responsible for highlighting over runs and supplying contingency plans to mitigate.
  • Provides forecasts and responsible for managing the Implementation budget.
  • Coordinates project scope and UTi’s commitment to the client’s required resources.
  • Initiates/completes appropriate change control processes based on scope creep or increased expectations for project success.

 

 

Innovation & Quality

  • Evaluates Distribution operations and develops short and long term strategies that deliver process improvements to create quantified value and performance excellence for internal and external clients.
  • Leads the quality and developing innovative strategy activities to successfully achieve the following objectives: 
    • Implements best practices across various business lines within Distribution and works in partnership with Contract Logistics Implementation and Innovation organization to share best practices, ideas and metrics.
    • Responsible for the successful implementation of quality principles and practices across the Distribution function and provides leadership to the operations leaders to champion the initiatives to drive accountability. 
    • Drives the communication and accountability of quality best practices and facilitates standardization practices that include the development and execution of quality training. 
    • Delivers quanitifed value for the Company and for clients by providing meaningful metrics and analysis of data that reflect a commitment to quality and continuous improvement across the Distribution businesses. 
  • Responsible for the acquisition, retention and development of talent to deliver high quality implementation and innovation services.  Develops, monitors and reviews staff performance on a regular basis. 
  • Creates a team atmosphere through the alignment of objectives, effective and regular communications, resolving conflict in a fair and equitable manner, and recognizing achievements on a regular, ongoing basis. 
  • Contributes to strategic projects, regional initiatives, and Enterprise initiatives as assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (IF ANY)

  • Directly manages teams that may consist of Operations and Implementation Subject Matter Experts across various disciplines, Project Managers, and Quality teams. 
  • As required, will be directly responsible for consultants or other external resources.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED)

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field.
  • 8 years’ industry-related experience in transportation and logistics.
  • 5 years’ management experience required. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations

  • None

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

 

Computer Skills

  • High level of proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project
  • Experience utilizing specialized software applications. 

 

Language Skills

  • English (reading, writing, verbal)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to senior level managers, both internal and to clients.

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Advanced mathematical skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 
  • Budget management, forecasting and fundamental business planning, expense control and margin improvement, and quality methodology development and process improvement knowledge required.

 

Other Skills

 

  • Detailed knowledge of intermediate to complex distribution and transportation logistics operations required.
  • Detailed knowledge of new trends and practices in transportation logistics required.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.  
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

  • Master’s Degree strongly preferred in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field.

For this position, the expected base pay is: $128,500 - $193,000/ Annual.  Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
