SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the people, clients, and deliverables of the Road Operations team within assigned region and serves as an escalation point for customers and reports.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations Manager position can be broken down into three areas of responsibility: People Management, Client Relationship, Finance and Operational Excellence.

 

People Management

  • Ensures that the department is fully staffed and is working at capacity.
  • Provides coverage for vacations, sick time and LOA when necessary.
  • Assesses performance of the staff and provides timely feedback both formally through the performance management system and informally through coaching and mentoring.
  • Ensures that the team is properly trained and working efficiently.
  • Confirms that the team processes the shipments as outlined in the SOP’s and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that the team follows the Operational Data Quality Policy.
  • Monitors the performance of the members of each center under your supervision to ensure compliance. to policies, procedures, service standards, and increased business growth.
  • Develops succession plaining and training to create a sustainable department.
  • Motivates and supports co-workers, integrates and promotes the Corporate Values into daily actions and interactions (Integrity, Innovation, Teamwork, Dedication and Respect).
     

Client Relationship

  • Develops relationships with clients and serves as an escalation point as needed.
  • Manages third party service providers to ensure world class, seamless service delivery to the clients.
  • Engages with clients regarding non-payment of invoices; that results in resolve and payment.
  • Verifies that the team meets the clients need around shipment bookings, collections, delivery, and shipment updates and that client expectations are consistently exceeded.
     

Operational Excellence

  • Ensures and verifies client invoices are accurate and timely.
  • Acquires and applies professional/technical knowledge, skills, experience and judgment to accomplish results that contribute to the strategic business plans.
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve operational processes, defines structure and increases productivity.
  • Reviews and analyzes daily, weekly, and monthly reports for accuracy, trends, and areas needing development.
  • Supports the sales team in calls where operational expertise is required.
  • Educates self and others regarding product offerings consistently.
  • Assists Director of Operations with operational budget.
  • Analyzes and reports on performance of the business unit to ensure that budget performance measures are met/exceeded.
     

Finance

  • Formulates, monitors, and achieves their quarterly objectives.
  • Executes on monthly targets and controls as defined by country and regional leadership.
  • Manages costs within their locations and looks for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Delivers on the bottom line budget commitment.
  • Assists with reports on revenue targets for their locations.
  • Sets the cost budget in line with the strategy and manages costs or adjust costs according to business requirements.
  • Manages assets in line with targets, forecasts, and strategy requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities and risks within the business that may impact the business environment and ability to deliver to shareholder commitments.
  • Ensures compliance with internal and external controls and KPI’s set at the regional levels.
  • They will have operational and P&L responsibility for multiple locations.
     

OTHER DUTIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and communicates goals, team objectives and priorities.
  • Develops and produces highly motivated team.
  • Responsible for team member selection, hiring and training; reviews and retention of team member’s
  • Applies expertise to improve effectiveness and provide guidance to staff and associates.
  • Encourages subordinates to strive for operational excellence by continually challenging old methods or ways of thinking and taking responsible risks to maximize results; serves as a role model in innovative thinking and in focusing on quality within work.
     

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or Experience

 

  • Associates Degree in Logistics or relevant field and 1 year experience managing teams
  • In lieu of degree 3 years of experience including Managing teams, managing and compiling budgets and client relationship management.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of LTL, Truck Load, the current trucking marketplace trends.

  • Ability to function within a group dynamic individuals; obtaining an in-depth understanding of the diverse needs of each client and assume ownership of growing the business.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, requires the ability to self-direct, work without supervision.
  • Ability to balance multiple duties at once while still maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to mentor direct report and increase productivity through performance management.
  • Strong follow up skills.

Salary Positions

For this position, the expected base pay is: $85,000- $105,000/ Annual.  Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
