Summary

This role oversees the work of others who coordinate management of customer detention and demurrage in compliance with the defined DSV tariff, while meeting all FMC legislative requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a region’s detention and demurrage compliance and profitability.
  • Ensure that key, critical and complex accounts for an assigned region have clear billing SOPs and detention and demurrages tariffs is their NRAs.
  • Ensure that general accounts are adhering to the defined DSV tariff
  • Process payment of all related detention and demurrage charges to carriers in the region of responsibility after validation of compliance of the invoice
  • Manage and resolve invoicing disputes with vendors in a timely manner (carriers)
  • Ensure demurrage & detention details are timely communicated to the appropriate branch and billed within the compliant timeline of the shipment.
  • Support team members that are new or need retraining and coaching on specific operational or technical topics
  • Establish regular communication with the branch teams through established weekly, bi-weekly meetings, leading the discussion for detention & demurrage performance
  • Understand root causes of any losses for detention and demurrage and work with the responsible parties to prevent recurrences of these events.

 

 

Educational background / Work experience

.

  • 10+ years of experience in Logistics and customer service environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent understanding of ocean export/import operations – specifically container milestones as it relates to detention and demurrage
  • Maintain composure under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Email and Telephone etiquette
  • Ability to troubleshoot day-to-day issues that may arise during pick-up or delivery process

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Results oriented with an ability to prioritize, organize, and manage time effectively
  • Familiar with continuous improvement methodology preferred. 

 

 

Language skills

  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

 

Computer Literacy

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

For this position, the expected base pay is: $62,500 - $84,500 / Annual.  Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, geographic location and other objective business considerations.
