Main Purpose of The Role:
To deliver value-added customs services by managing non-core customs functions that enhance client solutions,
ensure SARS compliance, reduce risk, and support the organisation’s competitive differentiation within the customs clearing and freight forwarding industry.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have 5 – 10years working experience as Customs Broker
- Must have transport to and from work
- Must be willing to work overtime weekdays and weekends when the need arises
- Must be fluent in English (written & oral)
- Freight Forwarding & or Customs Clearing Courses will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Customs procedures and processes.
- Must have been involved in Customs Clearing and have knowledge of the industry
- Deal with relevant Controllers / Clients with regards to relevant queries and ensure that they are resolved
- Ability to ensure SARS compliance and mitigate risks related to non-compliance
- Strong analytical skills to resolve complex clearances
- Must have been involved in Customs Clearing and have knowledge of the industry
- Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, internal teams, government agencies
- Responsible for own QC of work processed
- Proven experience in Customs Clearing within the freight forwarding industry
Added advantages:
- Freight Forwarding and/or Customs Clearing courses
- Customs-related training (e.g. audits, tariff determination, customs legislation
Qualifications:
- Matric (essential)
- Tertiary qualifications will be of advantage.
Computer packages
- Office 365 (Teams, OneNote, Forms), MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (intermediate).
- Cargo Wise, Ship Shape
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Manage and process customs refunds, drawbacks, and provisional payments
- Process customs declarations, including but not limited to:
Warehousing declarations
General entries
Industrial rebates
General rebates
Ex-customs warehouse entries
- Prepare and submit Vouchers of Correction
- Conduct and manage customs audits from initiation through to finalization
- Perform accurate tariff determinations (TDNs) in compliance with customs legislation
- Handle and resolve customs-related queries from clients, internal stakeholders, and government authorities
- Assist the Customs Manager with ad-hoc operational and compliance-related tasks as required
- Ensure all customs activities are performed in accordance with SARS requirements and internal quality standards
- Role may require overtime during peak periods or operational demands
- Independence and accountability are essential
