Summary
The Senior Team Lead, Freight Operations provides day-to-day operational leadership within the freight brokerage function. This role directs and coordinates the work of Account Managers and Carrier Sales Representatives to ensure shipments are executed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with customer requirements. The Senior Team Lead serves as a key operational liaison between teams and leadership, supports carrier and customer relationships, assists with issue resolution and escalations, and helps drive service quality, performance consistency, and continuous improvement across freight operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate daily freight operations to ensure timely, cost-effective, and customer-compliant shipment execution.
- Support load planning, carrier selection, pricing strategy, and resolution of operational or service-related issues.
- Act as a point of escalation for shipment exceptions, service failures, delays, or disruptions and coordinate corrective actions with leadership.
- Monitor shipment execution, documentation accuracy, and system data integrity, including BOLs, carrier packets, and load data.
- Partner closely with Account Managers and Carrier Sales Representatives to align operational execution with customer and carrier commitments.
- Negotiate carrier rates and support spot and volume pricing requests as needed.
- Assist in resolving issues related to delays, damages, service discrepancies, and claims in coordination with internal teams.
- Monitor key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, service performance, margin results, and carrier payment issues.
- Assist with operational reporting, performance analysis, and visibility for leadership.
- Support initiatives focused on revenue growth, margin optimization, and operational efficiency.
- Recommend and support process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support new customer onboarding and account transitions by ensuring operational readiness, system setup, and process alignment.
- Provide functional guidance and day-to-day direction to Account Managers and Carrier Sales Representatives without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in freight brokerage, transportation operations, or logistics.
- Experience coordinating freight operations and supporting customer and carrier relationships in a brokerage environment.
- Prior experience providing functional leadership or work direction without formal people management responsibilities preferred.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and brokerage-related software platforms.
- Strong understanding of domestic freight operations, carrier sourcing, pricing, and service execution.

Physical Demands
This position is primarily sedentary and requires extended periods of sitting while working at a computer workstation. The role involves frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating standard office equipment. The employee must be able to communicate effectively, including talking and hearing, to interact with team members, customers, carriers, and leadership via phone, video conferencing, and in person. Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching may be required. Vision requirements include close vision for reviewing data, reports, and computer screens.
Work Environment
This role is primarily performed in an office environment within a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting. The work environment includes frequent interaction with Account Managers, Carrier Sales Representatives, carriers, customers, and cross-functional internal teams. Noise levels are generally low to moderate and typical of an office or operations center environment. The position may require extended or staggered work hours to support operational demands, including peak shipping periods or service escalations. Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training, or customer engagement.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $90,000.00 – $100,000.00 Annual. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
