Summary
The Senior Control Tower Specialist, Freight Security is responsible for monitoring and supporting freight security across the transportation network, with a primary focus on high-value and high-risk shipments. This role ensures required security measures, devices, routing controls, and monitoring protocols are properly established and maintained throughout the shipment lifecycle.
The position serves as a senior security resource within the Control Tower, reviewing shipment requirements, identifying potential vulnerabilities or exceptions, and exercising judgment to determine appropriate actions when security requirements are not met. The role monitors active shipments and security technology, analyzes security events and trends, and provides recommendations to strengthen cargo security practices and reduce risk.
This role operates on a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule, Tuesday through Monday, with working hours from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM, supporting continuous transportation operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review high-value and high-risk shipments to identify applicable security requirements and confirm required controls are established prior to and throughout transit.
- Ensure required security devices and monitoring technologies are properly assigned, activated, configured, and functioning based on shipment requirements and risk level.
- Monitor active shipments using GPS, telematics, geofencing, security devices, and other tracking technology to identify route deviations, device failures, unauthorized stops, or other potential security concerns.
- Independently evaluate security exceptions and determine appropriate actions, escalation, or additional controls based on shipment risk, circumstances, and established security requirements.
- Review routing, secure parking, seal controls, chain-of-custody requirements, and other shipment security measures to identify potential vulnerabilities.
- Respond promptly to security alerts and incidents by reviewing available shipment, tracking, telematics, and security data to assess risk and support timely resolution.
- Analyze cargo theft activity, security incidents, regional alerts, and emerging trends to identify potential risks and recommend appropriate preventive measures.
- Conduct security reviews and audits to validate compliance with established security requirements, procedures, and customer-specific protocols.
- Coordinate with Operations, Safety, Compliance, law enforcement, cargo theft task forces, insurance partners, and other internal or external stakeholders as appropriate during significant security events.
- Identify recurring security gaps, device or process failures, and operational vulnerabilities and recommend improvements to strengthen security controls and reduce exposure.
- Maintain accurate security records, incident information, device status, and shipment documentation within applicable systems and prepare reports and summaries for management.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain security, cargo security, loss prevention, or a related operational environment.
- Working knowledge of transportation operations, shipment lifecycle, routing, cargo security, and high-value freight requirements.
- Experience supporting high-value freight, cargo theft prevention, shipment security, or security monitoring strongly preferred.
- Experience using GPS tracking, telematics, geofencing, cargo security devices, or other security monitoring technology.
- Experience evaluating security exceptions, identifying risk, and determining appropriate actions based on established requirements and circumstances.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other transportation or security technology.
- Experience supporting security incident response, audits, or investigations preferred.

- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to accurately verify security requirements, device status, shipment information, and supporting documentation.
- Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness with the ability to quickly identify and respond to security alerts, exceptions, and time-sensitive issues to minimize risk and potential exposure.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills with the ability to respond quickly and appropriately in time-sensitive or high-risk situations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate security data, identify patterns, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple high-priority shipments and security matters simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate security concerns, findings, and recommendations.
- Strong proficiency with transportation, tracking, telematics, security monitoring systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in an office environment and requires frequent use of a computer, telephone, security monitoring systems, and other standard office equipment. The position requires extended periods of sitting and monitoring multiple systems and may occasionally require standing, walking, bending, or lifting and moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close and distance vision and the ability to effectively monitor computer screens and security systems for extended periods.
Work Environment
This position primarily operates in a professional office environment supporting continuous transportation operations. The role requires sustained attention to active shipments, security alerts, monitoring systems, and changing operational conditions throughout the scheduled shift. The position operates on a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule, Tuesday through Monday, from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and requires consistent availability and responsiveness during scheduled working hours.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $60,000.00 – $75,000.00 Annual. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
