Summary
The Senior Logistics Coordinator, Freight Procurement & Backhaul is responsible for maximizing fleet utilization by strategically procuring freight that minimizes empty miles and optimizes available truck and trailer capacity across DSV's transportation network. This role proactively sources backhaul, less-than-truckload (LTL), partial truckload, and full truckload freight through load boards, broker relationships, customer opportunities, and transportation marketplaces to reduce deadhead miles and improve overall asset utilization.
Working closely with dispatch, operations, driver leaders, and customers, the Senior Logistics Coordinator evaluates freight opportunities, negotiates rates, and makes independent decisions regarding freight selection, routing, and capacity planning to maximize profitability while maintaining exceptional customer service. Success in this role is achieved through effective decision-making, operational efficiency, strong collaboration, and maximizing fleet utilization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor freight load boards, transportation marketplaces, customer portals, and brokerage platforms to identify freight opportunities that align with DSV's transportation network and available equipment.
- Secure profitable backhaul freight to minimize deadhead miles and maximize fleet utilization.
- Drive fleet utilization objectives by strategically procuring freight that maximizes available truck and trailer capacity, with the goal of maintaining approximately 95% truck utilization while minimizing empty miles.
- Source less-than-truckload (LTL), partial truckload, and full truckload freight to optimize available truck and trailer capacity.
- Evaluate freight opportunities based on profitability, lane compatibility, customer requirements, transit times, equipment availability, and operational constraints.
- Negotiate freight rates, accessorial charges, and service requirements with freight brokers, shippers, customers, and third-party logistics providers.
- Partner with dispatch, operations, and driver leaders to identify available truck capacity and strategically match freight to available equipment.
- Analyze freight lanes, market trends, seasonal demand, transportation pricing, and capacity trends to identify recurring freight opportunities and improve network efficiency.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with freight brokers, customers, and logistics partners to increase access to quality freight opportunities.
- Continuously monitor available truck capacity and proactively identify opportunities to improve loaded miles and reduce empty miles.
- Recommend routing strategies and freight solutions that improve operational efficiency while supporting customer commitments and profitability objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of freight opportunities, negotiated rates, awarded loads, and operational activities within the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Monitor daily transportation operations to identify capacity gaps and implement solutions that improve asset utilization.
- Analyze operational data and recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, profitability, and service performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of freight movements while maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, applicable transportation regulations, and safety standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on fleet utilization, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transportation operations, dispatch, freight brokerage, freight procurement, logistics coordination, or an asset-based trucking environment.
- Experience utilizing freight load boards such as DAT, Truckstop, or similar transportation marketplaces.
- Experience sourcing truckload, less-than-truckload (LTL), and partial freight opportunities.
- Experience negotiating freight rates and transportation services.
- Working knowledge of freight procurement, backhaul planning, fleet utilization, capacity planning, and transportation operations.
- Knowledge of transportation routing, freight markets, pricing strategies, and operational planning.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in an asset-based trucking or dedicated fleet environment preferred.
- Experience developing broker and customer relationships to secure freight opportunities preferred.
- Understanding of FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and DOT transportation compliance preferred.

Physical Demands
This position is primarily performed in an office environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting, frequent use of a computer, and regular communication by telephone, email, and virtual meeting platforms. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds and may periodically visit terminal, warehouse, or yard environments, requiring the ability to walk, stand, and safely navigate operational areas.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced transportation operations environment requiring frequent interaction with dispatch, driver leaders, customers, freight brokers, carriers, and internal business partners. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and make timely business decisions in response to changing freight markets, customer needs, and operational demands. Occasional travel may be required based on business needs.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $65,000.00 – $78,000.00 Annual. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
