Distribution Manager

DSV are recruiting for Distrbution Manager in Wythenshawe, Manchester .
- We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Transport/Distribution Manager to lead our Regional Distribution operations. The successful candidate will oversee the transportation and distribution of goods, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery to our customers.
- This role demands strong leadership, exceptional organisational skills, and an in-depth understanding of transport regulations and compliance. The Transport/Distribution Manager will play a pivotal role in optimising fleet utilisation, maintaining high standards of customer service, and driving operational efficiency.
Key Tasks
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations, including drivers' hours and health and safety standards.
- Monitor and control transportation costs to meet budgetary requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of transport activities, including vehicle maintenance, driver logs, and regulatory documentation.
- Develop and implement transport strategies aligned with business goals.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure smooth operations.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Lead and motivate the transport team to achieve high performance and operational excellence. Provide clear direction and support to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently.
- Compliance Management: Ensure all transport activities comply with legal requirements, including vehicle dimensions, weights, and driver regulations. Stay updated on industry regulations and implement necessary changes.
- Customer Service: Maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring their transport needs are met with high levels of satisfaction. Address any issues or concerns promptly and effectively.
- Cost Control: Monitor transport budgets and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality. Analyse financial reports and adjust operations as necessary to maintain profitability.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices in transport management. Stay informed on industry trends and technological advancements to enhance operations.
- Reporting: Prepare and present reports on transport activities, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and any incidents or deviations from plans. Use data to inform decision-making and drive improvements.
Skills and Competencies
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and lead a team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Transport Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK transport regulations, drivers' hours, vehicle dimensions, and health and safety requirements.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, drivers, and other stakeholders.
- IT Proficiency: Competent in using transport management systems and other relevant software for planning and reporting.
- Customer Focus: Committed to delivering high standards of customer service and achieving customer satisfaction.
- Experience of operating in a multi drop groupage operation and operating with approved sub contractors
