Compensation:  Salary starting at $74,174 per year, plus eligible benefits, in accordance with experience and internal equity

SUMMARY

Oversee and lead day-to-day brokerage operations and the supervision of staff.  Responsibilities are to supervise the Customs Department in all operational disciplines involving the entry and clearance of imported goods, making sure there is operational excellence, high productivity, and customer satisfaction.  Will also implement business objectives and programs for the Customs Department.  Responsible to actively maintain and grow existing and new business. Must stay informed and implement all new Canada Customs procedural and policy changes.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for hands-on supervisory duties of the Customs Department.
  • Manage the workload to ensure timely customs clearances
  • Responsible for the efficient and timely execution of all facets of the customs brokerage operation and services provided by the department.
  • Coordinate activities with staff to ensure that goods and shipments are classified, rated, and billed properly and cleared in a timely and efficient manner and provide outstanding client service.
  • Ensure proper training and education of the department staff and provide adequate cross-training.
  • Evaluate staff performance on a regular basis and annually through the performance appraisal process.
  • Work with sales with regards to customer retention and development, and account management to maintain and develop relationships with current customers, and to develop and bring new customers into the department
  • Evaluate branch performance on a regular (Monthly) basis using measurement standards and tools provided by Area Compliance and take corrective action, as needed.
  • Manage and control TIB's (Temporary Import Bonds)
  • Maintain continuous improvement processes to increase efficiencies and improve performance to customers and work with customers to improve processes through automation.
  • Ensure team members are trained, technically competent and well informed of changes in customer service requirements and regulatory. Hold regular (at least once per month) meetings with the department staff and organize in-house training sessions, as and when needed
  • Perform Other duties as and when assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Post-secondary Education or related field or Equivalent qualification
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), working towards obtaining certification
  • 3- 5 years customs brokerage experience

  • Expertise in CBSA requirements for processing Customs entries
  • Ability of effective people management through KPI setting and measurement
  • Ability to recognize legal trends (regulations) incl. compliance environment
  • Ability to recognize Industry and Market trends and developments
  • Has a holistic perspective, realizes independencies and their impact when planning and decision making
  • Proven track record in building high performing workforce (experienced in recruitment/selection; training/development; coaching; conflict management; performance management)
  • Act as a role model for DSV values and adhere to the Code of Conduct

 

Language and Computer Skills

 

  • English is the principal language for this position, additional languages may be required in other locations. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Microsoft Office suite

 

Physical Demands

             

  • Prolonged periods sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Regular working hours apply for this position, at times, working beyond these hours may be required by business needs.
