Purpose of the position

 

To provide assistance to our team of customs raters in their day to day task of submitting customs entries. The Customs Support role will assist in both the pre-clearance process in assembling documents and registering shipments for lodging, as well as post clearance matters relating to transportation and releasing of cargo. The Custom Support role will be asked to perform all duties correctly and cost-efficiently, in compliance with Company standards.

 

 Key Tasks

 

Shifts: Morning, Afternoon and Nights

  • Manage the Customs group email account and distribute documents and information accordingly to the appropriate people
  • Answering the telephone
  • Registering shipments to be submitted for customs clearance
  • Track and trace incoming shipments and assist with data entry
  • Manage all incoming mail and gather commercial and shipping documents from client and, where necessary, arrange for documents to be mailed to steamship lines and relevant parties
  • Arranging for payments of invoices to steamship lines, warehouses, government agencies etc
  • Arranging for transportation of cargo once released, and maintaining trucker relationships to maximize partnerships
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines, such as the Code of Conduct, assigned work schedules, and attendance requirements.
  • Identify tasks that require special handling, recommend process improvements and implement resolutions within assigned scope of responsibility
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational background / Work experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience in customer service an asset

2 – 3 years of freight forwarding and/or customs brokerage experience preferred but not necessary

 

Language Skills

English fluency (written and spoken)

Secondary language (an asset)

 

Computer Literacy

MS office, basic software skills

Knowledge of Internet
