- 10+ years of Automotive production logistics experience

- Communication & conflict management skills to successfully deal with all levels, age groups and cultures of people – both internal and external.
- Ability to manage people in a unionized environment successfully.
- Commercial & financial skills: Financial acumen and experience in adherence to budget, contract management and service level agreements.
- Problem solving skills to identify potential problems and put the necessary in place to resolve the problem. Important to be pro-active not re-active.
- Business development experience: The ability to identify extension business and new business opportunities. The ability to engage with the client and design and sell a solution that best meets the requirements of the client and our business.

JOB SPECIFICATION
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The General Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the client’s, Ford Silverton, account under Contract Logistics, in South Africa, aligning the company strategy across all operations, including inbound airfreight.
This position is accountable for a world-class solution to Client, including contract adherence in terms of client relations, operational performance, commercial and financial performance, people management, development, continual improvement and innovation initiatives.
The role needs to ensure that the DSV Contract Logistics strategies, goals and initiatives are cascaded down through the organization into the various areas of the operations, whilst ensuring compliance with the DSV standards, policies and procedures.
The incumbent should take a leading role in developing services and solutions to complement DSV’s offering to the Automotive industry.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Client strategy:
- Develop strategic operating plans that reflect the long-term objectives and priorities established by Client as well as DSV.
- Manage all risks with regards to services provided by DSV to Client.
- Ensure adequate operational planning and financial control systems.
Client Operations:
- Full accountability and leadership on all aspects of the Client Site operations in Gauteng.
- Accountable for all initiatives being implemented across these operations, including potential new scope.
- Retain and grow business with Client Motor Company South Africa.
- Compliance of sites to DSV standards, including SHERQ and Quality Management System.
- Unlocking of synergies within operations to improve competitiveness of solution.
Client Relationships:
- Representing DSV in client interaction and issue resolution to ensure client satisfaction.
- Ensuring client’s needs and expectations are consistently met within scope of the SLA.
- Structured management reviews (both strategic and operational) to review performance and discuss strategic initiatives and business growth opportunities.
Commercial / Financial:
- Overall accountability for the Contract Logistics P&L, and achievement of profitability targets.
- Thorough understanding and application of contract and service level agreements to achieve account stability and profitability.
- Accountable for accurate billing and debt collection.
- Management of all commercial risk with the client, including claims resolution and negotiation.
- Identify and support initiatives to further improvement account profitability.
Operational Performance:
- Leading the operations teams to consistently achieve performance metric targets.
- Driving a continuous improvement and lean culture, to deliver on client requirements.
- Stakeholder management (Internal cross-silo and external).
- Pro-actively manage client satisfaction, including dissatisfaction process, client complaints, damages etc to determine root cause and corrective actions.
People Management:
- Build and maintain an effective management team.
- Ensure effective resourcing in all departments to deliver the expected services.
- Firm and consistent approach to ongoing performance measurement and management of team.
- Coaching and mentoring of team to achieve client objectives.
- IDP and succession plans in place for all critical roles.
- Drive training interventions to close skills gaps in operations.
Client Expectations:
- Accountable to develop and maintain open and constructive client communication channels.
- Ensure delivery against service level agreements.
- Lead and demonstrate DSV’s efforts to reach and exceed client expectations.
