Job Summary:

This role will be responsible for managing day-to-day services, supporting business critical infrastructure, ensuring high availability of IT systems, and coordinating between various teams to ensure efficient data center operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent critical thinking skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams to meet the demands of the data center environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Support:
    • Support and maintain the daily operations of the data center, including the monitoring of hardware, network, power, and cooling.
    • Provide support for Server, Storage, Network, and Backup Services Team on connection planning, hardware installations, cabling, troubleshooting and hardware decommissioning. Collaborate with internal IT resources to ensure all these servers, storage, backup, and network systems operate efficiently and meet uptime targets.
    • Assist in the execution of routine maintenance tasks and data center management activities to ensure continued system availability and stability.
  2. Incident Management:
    • Serve as a point of contact for service-related issues in the data center, including equipment failures, environmental issues, or connectivity problems. Investigate and resolve incidents or service requests promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to the overall operations.
    • Escalate complex issues to appropriate technical teams and provide follow-up as necessary to ensure resolution.
  3. Service Coordination:
    • Coordinate internal and external service requests, including provisioning of new systems, maintenance tasks, and infrastructure changes.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, facilities, and operations, to plan and implement service improvements and facility upgrades.
    • Track and report on service performance, availability, and reliability metrics, ensuring services meet the defined SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
  4. Data Centre Monitoring:
    • Monitor the health and performance of critical infrastructure, networks, and systems within the data center using monitoring tools and software.
    • Ensure that power, cooling, environmental, and security systems are continuously monitored and maintained to avoid downtime.
    • Conduct periodic inspections and reviews of data center services to ensure compliance with operational standards and best practices.
  5. Security and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all data center services meet industry-specific security standards and compliance regulations.
    • Participate in security reviews and assist with the implementation of best practices for physical and cybersecurity within the data center.
  6. Capacity Planning:
    • Collaborate with the IT and facilities teams to monitor the growth of data center infrastructure, providing input on the scaling and capacity planning for power, cooling, and server space.
    • Identify and address potential capacity issues proactively by reviewing usage patterns, upcoming requirements, and infrastructure needs.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of services, configurations, and system performance metrics.
    • Contribute to the creation and updating of runbooks, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and documentation for data center services.
  8. Vendor and Contract Management:
    • Assist in managing relationships with vendors and service providers, ensuring that services meet quality standards and are delivered on time. Supporting vendor contract management, ensuring compliance with agreed SLAs, delivery terms, and service quality.
  9. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for service improvement within the data center environment and contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements, new tools, and automation to enhance efficiency and reduce operational risks.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

    • Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent. Equivalent technical certifications in lieu of a formal diploma.
    • Preferred: A Degree or Vocational Qualification in a related field like Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), can be advantageous.

Experience: 2+ years of experience in data center operations, services, or support roles.

Skills and Knowledge:

    • Strong technical understanding of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, power, cooling, and security systems.
    • Experience with data center monitoring tools and management software
    • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to data center services and operations.
    • Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and respond quickly to incidents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications related to data center operations, such as Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) or Uptime Institute certifications.
  • Experience with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) processes and service management.
  • Understanding of cloud services, virtualization technologies, and server hardware.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery and business continuity planning for data centers.
