Purpose of the Role
The Project Director acts as the dedicated COO Project Management Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for assigned Global Customer Management (GCM) accounts.
The role provides end-to-end coordination, governance, prioritization, and portfolio leadership across all project-related activities for the assigned GCM customer. Acting as the primary interface between GCM and the COO organization, the Project Director ensures that global customer requirements are translated into executable programs and projects, resources are mobilized effectively across regions, and initiatives are delivered consistently in line with DSV standards and governance requirements.
The Project Director does not own large dedicated delivery teams but coordinates and governs delivery through a matrix organization of regional project managers and functional specialists.
Key Responsibilities
1. Single Point of Accountability toward GCM
- Act as the primary COO Project Management interface for assigned GCM account(s).
- Build strong relationships with GCM leadership, customer stakeholders, and COO functional leaders.
- Ensure all project, implementation, transition, and transformation demands are coordinated through a single governance and delivery structure.
- Provide a consistent and professional customer experience across all regions.
2. Demand Management & Portfolio Leadership
- Receive and structure implementation, transition, and project demand from GCM.
- Consolidate multiple project requirements into a single portfolio view.
- Establish and maintain portfolio roadmaps for assigned customers.
- Determine project interdependencies, priorities, risks, and resource requirements.
- Balance customer demand against available delivery capacity globally, in co-ordination with regional BCM management.
- Drive prioritization discussions with GCM and COO stakeholders.
3. Governance & Delivery Oversight
- Own project governance structures for assigned GCM accounts.
- Establish governance forums, reporting cadences, steering committees, and escalation mechanisms.
- Ensure adherence to DSV project methodologies, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Maintain visibility of milestones, budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions.
- Lead escalation management for delivery-related challenges.
- Ensure consistency of execution across regions and functions.
4. Resource Coordination
- Identify and qualify project opportunities before mobilizing project management resources.
- Identify required project management resources across regions.
- Coordinate resource requests with regional PM leads and/or other relevant stakeholders, subject to the type of project.
- Ensure appropriate project capabilities are assigned to initiatives.
- Maintain transparency regarding capacity constraints and resource conflicts.
- Escalate cross-regional resourcing challenges when required.
5. Cross-Functional Integration
- Coordinate closely with:
- Solution Design SPOCs
- A&I Program Leads
- CIP Program Leads
- Regional Operations Teams
- GCM Commercial & Strategy Teams
- Customer stakeholders
- Ensure alignment across all workstreams involved in customer delivery.
- Facilitate effective handovers between design, implementation, automation, integration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Risk, Issue & Escalation Management
- Maintain overall visibility of risks and issues across assigned customer portfolios.
- Drive mitigation planning and corrective actions.
- Lead cross-regional escalation management.
- Resolve conflicts relating to capacity, priorities, dependencies, and delivery commitments.
- Escalate material risks through the established governance structure when required.
7. Standardization & Continuous Improvement
- Promote standardized project delivery methodologies and governance practices.
- Drive consistency across customer implementations and transitions.
- Capture and replicate best practices across the GCM portfolio.
- Support the evolution of the GCM x COO operating model and project governance framework.
Required Experience
- 10+ years in project, program, or portfolio management.
- Proven experience managing multi-country or global implementations.
- Experience leading matrix organizations.
- Strong stakeholder management capability across executive, regional, and customer leadership levels.
- Demonstrated experience in Contract Logistics, Supply Chain, Technology Enablement, or Transformation Programs.
- Experience working within governance-driven environments.
- PRINCE2 accreditation is a plus
