The WMS Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the primary point of expertise for Warehouse Management System (WMS) configuration, operations, and support. The role is responsible for ensuring effective WMS system performance, providing operational support, and acting as the key liaison between customers, warehouse operations, local Contract Logistics IT, APAC IT, and Global IT.

The WMS SME provides on-site Level 1 support, manages system-related issues, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures adherence to established WMS standards, procedures, and best practices.

The role requires a strong understanding of warehouse operations, WMS processes, and related IT infrastructure to support business requirements and maintain operational efficiency.

a) WMS System Management & Support

  • Configure and maintain WMS system settings to support business processes and operational requirements.
  • Provide on-site Level 1 WMS support by analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving system issues where possible.
  • Escalate complex system issues to IT support teams with clear documentation, including issue details, impact assessment, and replication steps.
  • Serve as the primary contact point between customers, warehouse operations, and Contract Logistics IT for WMS-related matters.
  • Document and communicate system change requests, enhancements, and improvement opportunities.

b) Operational Support & Process Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with WMS best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions (WIs).
  • Support warehouse operations by ensuring effective use and functionality of WMS applications.
  • Participate in cross-functional improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and system performance.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute towards process optimization.

c) Training & Knowledge Management

  • Support the onboarding and training of new employees on WMS processes and system usage.
  • Maintain relevant WMS documentation, knowledge articles, and operational guidelines.
  • Share knowledge and provide guidance to operations teams on WMS-related matters.

 

d) IT Infrastructure Support

  • Maintain working knowledge of WMS-related hardware and equipment, including:
    • RF handheld devices
    • Printers
    • Workstations
    • Other supporting IT equipment

e) Compliance & Workplace Standards

  • Maintain a high standard of work quality and operational discipline.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements, SOPs, and company guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support WMS operations.

Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot system issues.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations and logistics processes.
  • Ability to analyze operational issues and determine appropriate solutions within defined procedures.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, operations teams, IT teams, and management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and reporting tools.
  • Ability to understand and apply WMS best practices and standard operating procedures.

Experience and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Minimum 1–4 years of relevant experience in WMS, warehouse operations, logistics, or related fields.
  • Prior experience supporting Warehouse Management Systems is required.
  • Experience in warehouse processes, operational workflows, and logistics best practices.
  • Experience in system troubleshooting, user support, and process improvement initiatives is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks and applicable compliance requirements.
