About the Role
The Head of Application Lifecycle is accountable for defining and executing the strategy for Application Lifecycle Management across Group & Enterprise Applications (GEA).
This role will establish and lead a strategic capability responsible for governing the end-to-end lifecycle of a complex enterprise application landscape covering application onboarding, demand intake, service ownership, portfolio governance, risk management, compliance, application consolidation, and decommissioning.
The role plays a key part in DSV's ongoing application landscape transformation following the Schenker integration and will help drive simplification, operational excellence, risk reduction, cost optimization, and improved transparency across the GEA portfolio.
Success in this role requires a leader who can combine strategic vision with operational execution, influence senior stakeholders across organizational boundaries, and establish governance models that create transparency, accountability, and measurable business value.
The position works closely with GEA Leadership, Enterprise Architecture, IT Compliance, Security, Technology Services, Finance IT, Service Owners and senior business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Define and Lead the Application Lifecycle Management Capability
- Define and execute the Application Lifecycle Management strategy for GEA.
- Establish the operating model, governance framework, processes and organizational capabilities required to manage the GEA application landscape at scale.
- Build Application Lifecycle Management into a recognized enterprise capability supporting strategic decision-making and portfolio optimization.
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team spanning application governance, portfolio management, risk coordination, compliance, service ownership and application consolidation.
- Establish governance forums, accountability models and management reporting supporting effective lifecycle decisions across GEA.
Drive Portfolio Rationalization & Application Transformation
- Lead the application consolidation and decommissioning roadmap across the GEA landscape.
- Drive application portfolio simplification initiatives that reduce complexity, operational risk and cost.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture to ensure lifecycle decisions support DSV's target architecture and technology strategy.
- Influence investment and prioritization decisions across the application portfolio.
- Ensure lifecycle governance supports business transformation and integration initiatives across DSV.
Establish Operational Excellence & Governance
- Establish the GEA Cockpit as the trusted management platform for portfolio, lifecycle, risk and operational oversight.
- Ensure transparency of application ownership, lifecycle status, compliance obligations, technical debt, risks and vulnerabilities.
- Establish governance for demand intake, service ownership and lifecycle decision-making.
- Drive consistent adoption of lifecycle management standards across domains.
- Improve data quality, governance and reporting across ServiceNow, CMDB, Jira and associated management tooling.
Lead Risk, Compliance & Control
- Establish a robust governance framework for application risk, vulnerability and compliance management.
- Ensure material risks, audit findings and compliance obligations have clear ownership and remediation plans.
- Partner with Security, Compliance and Risk functions to strengthen operational resilience and regulatory readiness.
- Provide transparency and executive reporting to GEA leadership.
Enterprise Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the senior lifecycle governance representative for GEA.
- Build trusted relationships with Directors, VPs and senior stakeholders across Global IT and business functions.
- Influence without formal authority across a large and geographically distributed organization.
- Represent Application Lifecycle Management in strategic forums, governance boards and leadership discussions.
- Identify and proactively manage cross-functional dependencies, risks and opportunities.
Required Experience
Required
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise IT leadership, application governance, application portfolio management, IT strategy, service management or related disciplines.
- Proven experience establishing or transforming enterprise-scale capabilities, operating models or governance frameworks.
- Experience leading large-scale application transformation, rationalization, modernization or consolidation initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of application portfolio management, lifecycle management, service ownership and IT governance.
- Experience within global, complex and matrix-based organizations.
- Strong understanding of risk management, cybersecurity governance, compliance and audit processes.
- Experience translating complex technology landscapes into actionable executive insights.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and executive leaders.
- Strong leadership experience with a track record of building high-performing teams.
Preferred
- Experience from logistics, transportation, supply chain or other asset-intensive industries.
- Experience supporting M&A integrations, technology consolidation, or large-scale transformation programs.
- Experience with ServiceNow, CMDB, Jira and modern IT governance tooling.
